Abstract:
Results from the human B lymphocyte portion of the Second International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens, held in Boston, Massachusetts, 17-20 September 1984, are presented. Studies employing the 52 B cell/leukemia panel antibodies are presented under the following headings: serological specificity of B cell/leukemia monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), biochemical analysis of antigens defined by the workshop B cell/leukemia panel, immunohistochemical analysis of B cell/leukemia panel mAbs, expression of B cell/leukemia panel on leukemias and lymphomas, and functional significance of human B cell/leukemia antigens. Topics include radioimmunobinding assay; lymphocyte differentiation antigens in immunodeficiency diseases; B cell differentiation; spontaneous mouse erythrocyte rosette formation; antibodies of normal and neoplastic lymphoid tissues and cell lines; mAb reactivity with follicular dendritic cells in tissue sections and with lymphoblastoid cell lines; anti-B cell mAbs in thymus, lymph node, and normal skin; phenotypes of B chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) B cells established with mAbs; subclassification of leukemia using mAbs; heterogeneity of B-CLL cells defined by mAbs; characterization of Burkitt's lymphoma cell lines with mAbs; phenotypic changes occurring during in vitro activation of human splenic B lymphocytes; B lymphocyte surface antigens involved in the regulation of immunoglobulin secretion; detection of interleukin-2 receptors on activated human B cells; receptors for Epstein-Barr virus; mAb-defined surface molecules and their regulation of lymphocyte activation; and platelet aggregation inhibition by Fab monomers of mAb BA-2.
