Abstract: This book consists of the proceedings of a symposium on lymphoproliferative diseases, held at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, November 16-17, 1984. The articles are divided into four sections, namely, pathobiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and clinical aspects. Those included in the first section have the following titles: oncogene activation by chromosomal translocations; molecular analysis of the human interleukin-2 receptor; DNA rearrangements as unique molecular markers of clonality, cellular lineage, differentiation, and translocation; animal models of lymphoid cell neoplasia; and a new look at the relationship of the immune system to neoplasia. The topics included in the second section have the titles: the epidemiology of lymphomas; and clinico-epidemiological features of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) in Japan: relations of HTLV-I/ATLV infection to ATLL manifestation. The third section has the following titles: immunohistologic techniques: their impact in tumor diagnosis, with particular reference to lymphomas; serologic approaches to tumor diagnosis; use of radio-labeled antibodies in diagnosis and staging of solid tumors; and flow cytometry in lymphoma/leukemia diagnosis. Finally, in the fourth section the titles are: changing concepts in therapy of the non-Hodgkin lymphomas; biological approaches to the therapy of lymphoproliferative diseases; a comparison of the acquired immune deficiency syndrome in monkey and man; and human T-lymphotropic retrovirus (HTLV-III)-associated lymphoproliferative disorders in homosexual men.
