Abstract: Proceedings from a seminar on new technologies in the development and application of DNA probes, held September 23, 1985, in London, are presented under the following headings: use of DNA probes for diagnosis of infectious diseases; diagnosis of infectious disease using DNA probes: advantages, limitations, and potential; enzyme amplification and its relevance as a non-isotopic detection system for use with nucleic acid probes; DNA probes for retroviruses and oncogenes; genetic disease probes; and commercial development of DNA probe technology.
