Abstract: Eleven patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma were tested for the presence of antibodies to human T cell leukemia virus (HTLV). The age ranged from 21 to 73 yr. There were 5 females and 6 males. Four patients were serologically positive for the presence of HTLV antibodies. Three of the patients were living within the same area suggesting that this region could be an endemic area for this type of neoplasm. Histologically, the four positive cases were classified as the mixed cell type, diffuse, intermediate cell type and the large cell type, 'immunoblastic' lymphoma. Three of the patients had massive ganglia and visceral involvement with rapid progression of disease. The patients were treated with radiation therapy and chemotherapy. (13 Refs)
