Abstract: A sharp increase in the incidence of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) has been reported among homosexual men who live in or have visited New York or several other cities in the United States. The increase is accompanied by a similar increase in opportunistic infections. The cause is evidently infection by cytomegalovirus. Use of so-called 'recreational' drugs is apparently also a related factor. The increase in KS may be the result of a defect in the immune system. (no Refs)
