ALDO has generated millions of dollars with their public awareness campaigns and helped educate and protect young lives from infection in more than 60 countries; the influence of the ALDO Fights AIDS campaign has been immense. Since it launched in fall 2005, ALDO has raised over $3.2 million for YouthAIDS, impacting the lives of millions of young people around the world. ALDO hopes to build on this success by continuing to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS as well as raise funds for the fight against this pandemic.
"As an inherent part of the company's philosophy, ALDO has supported the fight against AIDS since 1985," says David Bensadoun, Vice President of ALDO. "Our current Love for Life bracelets, designed by orphans in Rwanda, will generate at least another $300,000 to the over $10 million that we have raised for AIDS-related causes. This commitment is part of our heritage and will continue to be at the core of our business values."
The designs of the AFA bracelets originated from the artwork done by children of the Rebero Orphan Center of Rwanda, who were asked to draw what their idea of "Love for Life" meant to them. ALDO is proud to have supported YouthAIDS' HIV prevention efforts in Rwanda including the work of the Rebero Orphan Center. The center brings together and cares for victims and orphans of the Rwandan Genocide, all of whom have lost either one or both of their parents in the genocide or to HIV/AIDS. Even amidst a climate of hardship, the resulting images were filled with messages of peace, hope and happiness. The beauty of their renderings has been captured and transcribed onto these limited-edition Love for Life bracelets, which are available in two women's styles - a gold tone and a silver tone, as well as a silver plated rubber wristband version for men. All bracelets retail for $5.00 each with 100% of the net proceeds benefiting YouthAIDS.
"YouthAIDS is proud to once again partner with ALDO. Their vision and innovation are a constant inspiration," says Kate Roberts, Founder and Director of YouthAIDS. "Buying the Love for Life bracelets is a simple and easy way to affect the lives of millions of young people around the world."
15 million children around the world have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS, losing one or both parents to the disease. One child dies every minute. Youth are most at risk for contracting HIV. Every 15 seconds, a young person between the ages of 15-24 becomes infected with HIV/AIDS; 50% of all new infections occur among this age group, and most do not know they carry this deadly virus. ALDO and YouthAIDS are determined to reverse this trend.
