PRNewswire - December 19, 2007

-- MAYA Steps Up by Helping Latino Nonprofits and Families With Cash Donation. Photo Exhibit by Local Photographer Will Feature a DC Latino with HIV.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following release is being issued by MAYA:

What: This holiday season, MAYA is giving $10,000 to six local Latino nonprofit organizations offering HIV/AIDS programs to the Latino community. MAYA will also donate cash to four Latino individuals and their families affected by the disease.

Washington, DC, has the highest AIDS case rate nationally. Five percent of the Hispanic population living in the city has HIV/AIDS and 4.5 percent of all new cases in 2006 involved Latinos. Latinos continue to face challenges in accessing health care, prevention services, and HIV treatment. MAYA is aware of this issue and wants to make a difference by not only donating money but also by creating awareness of the growing crisis.

Who: MAYA will host an exhibition by photographer Roxana Bravo featuring the life of a local Latino with HIV. Coffee and pastries will be donated by Leopold's Kafe. MAYA VP executives Rikki George and Raquel Garcia-Pertusa will be presenting the check to the following organizations: Clinica del Pueblo, Andromeda, Identity, Mary's Center, Latin American Youth Center, and Latinos en Accion. Latino HIV/AIDS patients will be present to share their personal stories.

When: Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The photo opportunity will be at 12:00 p.m.

Where: MAYA, 1028 33rd St., NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20007, located in Cady's Alley in Georgetown.

Why: One of MAYA's main goals has always been to improve the welfare of Latinos by helping them make a better life for themselves and their community.

MAYA recently expanded to Los Angeles. MAYA brings a wealth of experience to advertising, public relations, and grassroots marketing campaigns that target diverse markets, including the fastest growing U.S. population, Hispanics.
