PRNewswire - December 4, 2003

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Organization of Concerned Black Men's (CBM) approach to the HIV/AIDS epidemic is through education focused on the African-American youth. This year the delegates at the annual meeting, which will be held this weekend at the Washington Terrace Hotel in Washington, DC, on December 5 - 7, 2003, will review ways in which CBM has developed best-practice HIV/AIDS programs in Washington, DC that will be implemented in the 23 chapters of the CBM around the country. CBM delegates from L.A. to New York also will learn how to conduct successful substance abuse prevention programs for youth in their communities, receive important information on parental involvement in the lives of young people, and talk about strategies to improve the academic achievement of children in public schools.

Concerned Black Men, Inc. (CBM) was founded in 1975, when 5 African- American police officers organized to provide enrichment activities for Philadelphia area youths. Today, CBM National conducts "best-practice" youth prevention programs in the Nation's Capital. Additionally, its 23 chapters offer a variety of projects and activities such as oratory contests, spelling bees, youth conferences, college tours and other opportunities for youth throughout the country.
