New Website Launched for World AIDS Day; AIDSribbons.com Debuts Today

PRNewswire - December 1, 2003

HUNTINGTON, N.Y., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- To mark World AIDS Day, the Long Island Network of Community Services (LINCS) has launched AIDSribbons.com (http://www.AIDSribbons.com), an important new presence on the worldwide web.

According to UNAIDS statistics, there were 38.6 million adults and 3.2 million children living with HIV at the end of 2002, and 5 million new people become infected with the virus each year. Approximately half of all people who become infected with HIV are under 25 and die of AIDS before they are 35, but HIV remains a threat to people of all ages.

In trying to fight this continuing epidemic, LINCS designed AIDSribbons.com to give visitors a chance to show they care that HIV/AIDS is still among us and that people are still getting infected and are ultimately dying. By posting a red promise ribbon on the map of America in celebration of World AIDS Day, in memory of a loved one, in honor of someone who works to help those infected and affected by AIDS or to celebrate a special occasion in their lives, people will send a message that they understand and support the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Other interesting features on AIDSribbons.com are nationwide HIV/AIDS resources, HIV/AIDS news and a timeline of the epidemic and the ability to purchase a special edition commemorative pin. Visitors will also find this easy-to-navigate site an interesting source of current HIV/AIDS information.

In addition, the site offers an Affiliate Program which gives not-for-profits, as well as companies and individuals, the perfect opportunity to support a good cause and earn money at the same time.

LINCS is a community-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency working to support non-profit organizations on the frontlines in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other public health threats. With World AIDS Day approaching on December 1st, it's a perfect opportunity to visit AIDSribbons.com and post a promise ribbon, along with a message of support for the HIV/AIDS community in your hometown.
