Pager-Size Medication Reminder Helps Patients Take Medication Correctly; Helps Healthcare Providers Manage Medication Compliance

PRNewswire - December 2, 2003

ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivonex, LLC, a corporation headquartered in Rockville, MD and Key Largo, FL, announces the availability of NexDose(R), a medication reminder to assist people of all ages who take medication.

NexDose(R) helps patients take medications correctly by sounding an alarm when a dose of medication is due. "Failure to take medication correctly is one of the leading causes of hospital and nursing home admission," said Ronald D. Sekura, PhD, president of Vivonex. "This wearable, customizable, easy-to- use device will help people with simple or complex prescription regimens get the most out of their medications by taking them correctly."

For users who require extra features, NexDose(R) can handle up to 100 alarms per day, at pre-set or customizable intervals. It even supports alternate-day dosing, weekly dosing and "as needed" doses. It can be programmed to alert when prescription renewal is needed, or to determine number of doses needed for a trip. It is a stand-alone product and requires no subscription, activation, or service plan. "This is an easy-to-use, yet sophisticated product," said Sekura, "and it will help everyday patients, as well as those with complicated diseases such as heart disease, HIV, cancer, transplant, elderly and even pediatric patients."

An additional feature of NexDose(R) is optional PC software for healthcare professionals. Perfect for clinical trials, pharmacies, physician offices, or medication compliance management, the software downloads data from individual NexDose(R) devices. It then allows medication counseling or compliance analysis based on real data. The software will also allow professionals to set up templates for batch programming of custom regimens into multiple devices -- ideal for clinical trials, oncology or transplant protocols.

NexDose(R) is available for $239 directly from Vivonex at http://www.nexdose.com, or by telephone (1-888-VIVONEX).
