Artist Unveils Giant Painting on World AIDS Day for Children: Nearly an Acre in Size, the 41,400 Sq Ft Painting To Be Sold in Pieces for Charities

PRNewswire - November 28, 2001

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- After five long years of planning and painting, international artist Eric Waugh will unveil Hero: The World's Largest Painting by One Artist for the first and only time on World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, 2001, to raise $4 million for Camp Heartland, a national non profit organization dedicated to making life better for children impacted by HIV/AIDS, and The Starlight Children's Foundation(R), an international non- profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for seriously ill children and their families.

This giant painting (180' wide x 230' long) consists of 1,656 five feet square stretched canvas panels. Once assembled, a representative from Guinness Book of World Records will make the official declaration. After the giant painting is displayed once, Art.com, http://www.art.com, will divide it into square-foot pieces to sell as framed commemorative editions.

Waugh created the original Hero painting in 1995 that was printed as a fine art poster and sold to raise money for Camp Heartland. The popular print quickly earned prominence as a regular fixture on the set of NBC's Seinfeld (hanging behind the green bike in Jerry's apartment) and made cameo appearances on ER, Baywatch, Caroline in the City, and The Drew Carey Show. Hero also earned Waugh "Hero of the Day" in March 1996 from CBS This Morning with Mark McEwen.

This World AIDS Day event has attracted a performance by the newly formed Hudson Valley Girls, featuring Kate Pierson (B-52s), Sara Lee (Indigo Girls) and Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie).
