The office has been established to support WDI's initiative to register products for sale in Brazil. Over the past few months, several of WDI's leading infectious disease tests that are highly relevant to the Brazilian market, have been undergoing evaluation by various government certified laboratories, which must occur prior to receiving approvals for sale of the products in the Brazilian marketplace. WDI expects to begin marketing its products initially to the government during the first quarter of 2002, and subsequently to the private sector, once regulatory requirements are completed. Brazil is a vast country of 175 million inhabitants with significant challenges concerning healthcare and containment of infectious diseases.
"WDI was awarded a tender by the government of South Africa for its HIV tests, and began shipments last January. Subsequently, WDI began sales for its HIV tests in Argentina, Malaysia and Jamaica. HIV is but one of many tests that have been successfully evaluated and is undergoing registration in Brazil. Others include Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Malaria, Dengue Fever and Leishmania.
"WDI is committed to bringing state-of-the-art medical technology to the emerging markets of the world to improve healthcare and education, especially concerning infectious diseases. We believe our Company can make a difference in providing high quality, affordable diagnostic tests, which is a critical first step in Brazil's identification, treatment and care strategy." commented Barry Peters, Chairman of World Diagnostics.
