AHFC and Four A's Receive $572,600 AIDS Grant

PRNewswire - October 27, 2000

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) will receive $572,600 to continue providing housing services for persons with HIV/AIDS in cooperation with its sponsor, the Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association (Four A's). Alaska was one of 17 states recently awarded $23.6 million in funds from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The grant supplements prior Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS grants in 1994 and 1997 used to initiate Alaska's AIDS housing programs. The Four A's will provide housing and support services to 100 households in Anchorage and in the southcentral, southwestern and western regions of the state. The Four A's will also provide a comprehensive range of services, including case management, employment services, treatment and transportation, especially in addressing health-care-access needs in rural areas. Through a network of state agencies and community-based organizations that have committed more than $2 million in resources, persons with HIV/AIDS will receive personalized support services that will allow them to reside in their home communities.

AHFC is a self-supporting public corporation, which provides financing for multi-family complexes, congregate facilities, and single-family homes, with special loan programs for low- and moderate-income borrowers, veterans, and those living in rural areas of the state. It also provides energy and weatherization programs; low-income rental housing; and special programs for the homeless and those seeking to become self-sufficient. AHFC contributes more than $100 million annually to Alaska's state revenues through cash transfers, capital projects and debt-service payments.
