The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Celebrates World AIDS Day; Student Art and Essay Contest Winners Recognized at Awards Ceremony

Who: Winners of the children's HIV/AIDS poster and essay contests will be recognized during a World AIDS Day ceremony at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. In addition, students from the School District of Philadelphia will entertain guests with music and dancing, while Teen Peer Educators from Children's Hospital will perform a skit on HIV awareness.

What: An art and essay exhibit recognizing the 1999 World AIDS Day theme, "AIDS - End the Silence Listen, Learn, Live," followed by an awards ceremony honoring contest winners.

When: Wednesday, December 1 Art Exhibit: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Awards Ceremony: 10 a.m.

Where: The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Stokes Auditorium 34th & Civic Center Boulevard Philadelphia, PA

Details: The 1999 World AIDS Day theme, "AIDS - End the Silence Listen, Learn, Live" hopes to motivate people, particularly teens and adults, to open new lines of communication concerning the AIDS epidemic. HIV disease is projected to spread most rapidly among persons under 25 years of age. In recognition of the day, students in the School District of Philadelphia have participated in a poster and essay contest on HIV/AIDS awareness. Contest winners will be honored during a ceremony that will highlight this year's theme through the performance of Teen Peer Educators and student musicians and dancers. In addition, physicians and researchers from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia will be available to discuss the advancements in research and care for those infected with HIV.
