CEL-SCI Corporation and AIDS ReSEARCH Alliance Announce Results of HGP-30 AIDS Vaccine Study, Plan Further Study

PR Newswire, 810 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10019 - Wednesday September 17 8:30 AM EDT

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- CEL-SCI CORPORATION (Amex:HIV) and AIDS ReSEARCH Alliance of West Hollywood, California, announce the completion of a phase I safety study of the HGP-30 AIDS vaccine in 24 HIV infected patients. The study showed that immunizations with the HGP-30 vaccine coupled to KLH were safe in AIDS patients.

Based upon these results, CEL-SCI Corporation and AIDS ReSEARCH Alliance intend to evaluate the HGP-30 vaccine together with sargramostim, a recombinant human granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor ("GM-CSF"), supplied by Immunex Corporation, Seattle, Washington. It is hoped that the combination of these drugs will enhance the patients' immune responses to the HGP-30 vaccine, and therefore, to the virus and virus infected cells.

The HGP-30 vaccine has also been tested in 39 uninfected volunteers where it was shown to be safe and immunogenic. At last year's International AIDS Conference, it was reported by Dr. Kahn of San Francisco General Hospital that the vaccine conferred significant protection against a high level HIV challenge dose in the SCID mouse model. At a recent Vaccine meeting at the National Institutes of Health, CEL-SCI reported human data using HGP-30 that showed the vaccine's ability to induce immune responses that recognize different HIV subtypes from around the world. This is essential for the development of a broadly effective AIDS vaccine.

AIDS ReSEARCH Alliance is a non-profit AIDS research organization located in West Hollywood, California. CEL-SCI Corporation is a pioneer in the field of natural immunotherapy. The Company is developing immune based treatments for cancer, AIDS, herpes simplex, malaria and tuberculosis.
