Twenty young people between the ages of 12 and 18 will be selected to receive a "Caring Counts Award," and a $200 cash prize for their service. The award is jointly sponsored by the National AIDS Fund and the Metropolitan Life Foundation. Winners of the "Caring Counts Award" will also have their good deeds profiled in a publication that, sponsors hope, will provide practical suggestions about how other young people can get involved in the fight against AIDS.
"We know there are many dedicated young people who have refused to accept the stigma of HIV/AIDS and taken the initiative to get involved," said Fund President B.J. Stiles. "They're making important contributions in communities across the country, of ten without thanks and certainly without recognition. We want to thank them publicly, and tell their stories in a publication we will distribute to key policymakers throughout the nation. These young people have much to teach us all."
"Caring Counts Award" winners will be selected by a volunteer national advisory panel of both adults and young people. Applications for the "Caring Counts Award," are available from the National AIDS Fund, 1400 Eye St. N.W., Suite 1220, Washington, D.C. 20005. Telephone: 202-408-4848.
