Steppin' Out Awards $140,000 in Grants on World AIDS Day

DETROIT / December 1 /PRNewswire/ At a special ceremony to commemorate World AIDS Day on December 1, 1995, Steppin' Out will present $140,000 in grant awards to 13 agencies serving people living with AIDS in southeastern Michigan. The presentation will take place at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 1419 W. Warren, Detroit, at 11 a.m. Representatives from each agency, as well as people living with AIDS and HIV, are expected to attend. Steppin' Out, an all-volunteer non-profit organization, raised the funds for these awards through the annual Steppin' Out Walk and Run and Steppin' Out Celebrity Auction in September. Steppin' Out is the largest grass roots AIDS organization in Michigan, and has awarded over $300,000 in grants in the past three years.

1995 Grant Award Winners Include:

1. Children's Immune Disorder $11,500 2. Visiting Nurses Association $20,000 3. Hospice of Southeastern Michigan $ 6,000 4. Harmon House $ 9,000 5. Hemophilia Foundation of Southeastern Michigan $ 3,000 6. Latino Family Services $ 3,000 7. Health Emergency Lifeline Programs (HELP) $25,000 8. Friends Alliance $15,000 9. Simon House $12,000 10. AIDS Consortium $20,000 11. Community Health Group $ 7,000 12. DMC HIV/AIDS Program $ 6,000 13. DMC HIV Outpatient Mental Health Unit $ 2,500

Steppin' Out award grants must be used for direct care services, including food, transportation, shelter, medical services and medicine. In addition to these grants, Steppin' Out also awarded $22,000 to local agencies who received designated pledges at the annual Steppin' Out Walk & Run in September.
