Macy's & LIFEbeat Challenge Students to Think Creatively About Raising Awareness, Funds for HIV/AIDS Prevention; Back-to-School Program Awards Winning Idea with an Exclusive Performance by Teddy Geiger

Business Wire - August 14, 2006

NEW YORK - Beginning August 15, 2006, Macy's and LIFEbeat - the music industry's charitable organization dedicated to reaching America's youth with the message of HIV/AIDS prevention - are challenging high school and college students to a different kind of homework assignment: brainstorming creative ideas to raise awareness and dollars in support of HIV/AIDS prevention. The Macy's LIFEbeat Challenge will award the winning entrant with a private performance for the winner and 10 friends by Columbia recording artist Teddy Geiger.

"We are all too familiar with the necessity of bringing the issue of HIV/AIDS prevention back to light among a younger audience," said John Cannelli, Executive Director of LIFEbeat. "People under 25 are estimated to make up half of all new HIV infections occurring in the U.S., which translates into roughly 20,000 new infections each year in young people. Yet somehow today's kids seem to have gotten the message that this isn't something they need to be worried about."

From August 15 to October 15, the Macy's LIFEbeat Challenge invites high school and college students/student organizations to submit online at www.thisit.com or www.lifebeat.org their most creative, most out-of-the-box fundraising ideas for LIFEbeat.

Following the entry period, a panel of distinguished judges will review the ideas and select a winner based on creativity and fundraising/awareness-raising potential. The winner will be announced on World AIDS Day on December 1.

To kick off the program, American Rag will offer an exclusive LIFEbeat t-shirt available only in select Macy's stores and on macys.com in August and September (while supplies last). Ten dollars from the sale of each shirt will be donated to LIFEbeat. The shirts will retail for $18.
