The Quadriga BeFree System is a fully automated, high-throughput system used to screen blood for common infectious diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis. It will be used by large, mid- to high-volume blood bank laboratories to screen donated blood prior to it being used for a blood transfusion. This process helps to ensure donated blood is safe for the transfusion recipient.
"In this industry, we have the opportunity to make a difference in the quality of life of patients while providing our laboratory customers with the innovative solutions they need," said Jim Reid-Anderson, Chairman, President and CEO, Dade Behring. "This new product is a perfect example of meeting our customer's relevant needs and also enhancing patient care."
The Quadriga BeFree System has many features that help to make the testing for infectious diseases safe. Some of these features include: automated patient sample handling and verification, automated barcode identification of patient samples, and continuous monitoring of the instrument's status.
Outside the United States, Dade Behring offers one of the broadest combination of assays and analyzers using microtitre plates for infectious disease testing. BEP(R) Analyzers are used in both medium- to high-volume hospital laboratories. The Quadriga BeFree Systems are designed specifically for high-output automation in large blood banks.
