Thomas Land Publishers Names Leading Scientist Editor-in-Chief of HIV Clinical Trials

Business Wire - December 12, 2005

ST. LOUIS -- Dr. Milos Opravil, a preeminent physician and researcher, has been named by Thomas Land Publishers as the Editor-in-Chief of the independent journal HIV Clinical Trials (HCT), effective January 1, 2006. Dr. Opravil will succeed Dr. Maurice Staquet, HCT's founding Editor-in-Chief, who will continue to serve on HCT's Editorial Board.

Dr. Opravil is Titular Professor of Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and was a winner of the 1996 Pfizer Research Prize in Infectious Diseases. Dr. Opravil's research has included clinical studies involving pathogenesis and the treatment of HIV infection. He has been a member of the Scientific Board of the Swiss HIV Cohort Study since 1995. As Attending Physician at the University Hospital of Zurich, Dr. Opravil also works as a consultant for infectious diseases and supervises a large, outpatient infectious diseases clinic.

Since it was launched at the International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa in July 2000, HIV Clinical Trials has published the work of more than 1,000 leading researchers in HIV therapeutics. "HIV Clinical Trials has a unique pan-continental perspective," said Kenneth Killion, HCT Publisher. "As an unbiased and independent journal, HCT provides valuable, global access to late-breaking HIV data and includes reports of original HIV clinical trials. We are honored that Dr. Opravil will serve as our new Editor-in-Chief and we thank Dr. Staquet for his outstanding leadership in this role over the past six years."
