Reuters Foundation to Host Panel Debate on Fighting HIV/AIDS

NEW YORK -- Charitable trust Reuters Foundation will host a panel debate, 'Fighting HIV/AIDS - Does it take more than money?' in New York City on Thursday 10th November. The debate will be chaired by Niall FitzGerald, Chairman of Reuters, and the panel will feature:

Zackie Achmat, South African AIDS activist

Dr Mark Dybul, Deputy U.S. Global AIDS Co-ordinator

Laurie Garrett, award winning journalist

Dr Paul De Lay, Director of Evaluation, UNAIDS

Raymond Gilmartin, Special Advisor, Merck and Co., Inc.

Journalists are invited to attend the panel debate on November 10th at Reuters, 3 Times Square, NYC, from 6.00-8.30pm. Please email sophie.brendel@reuters.com to reserve a place.

The debate forms part of a Reuters Foundation week-long Reporting HIV/AIDS workshop for journalists from around the world, during which the participants will have the opportunity to hear from specialists on all angles of HIV/AIDS reporting.

The course will also feature speakers including Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Columbia University, Director, U.N. Millennium Project, and Dr Seth Berkley, CEO of International AIDS Vaccine Initiative.

Reuters Foundation was formed in 1982 to support journalists from developing countries. To date the Foundation has trained over four thousand reporters from 170 countries on topics ranging from writing business news to conflict reporting.
