Agence France Presse - November 23, 2004
The survey was designed to encourage anonymous and frank responses about the disease, and its release is timed to coincide with World AIDS Day, December 1.
The survey showed that seventy-five percent (75%) of respondents ranged from ages twelve (12) to twenty-five (25), and of that amount, sixty-five percent (65%) were female because women are (unfortunately) a fast-growing percentage of newly diagnosed HIV cases.
Approximately eighty-four percent (84%) of this young audience regarded AIDS & HIV as "Extremely Serious," and thirty-eight percent (38%) of respondents had been tested for HIV.
Thirty-six percent (36%) of the respondents indicated that they knew someone with AIDS or HIV. Perhaps this tells us that the stigma of AIDS and/or HIV is gradually being reduced because people are getting educated about the disease and know they can still be friends, coworkers and even lovers with an AIDS- or HIV-infected person so long as proper precautions are taken.
Out of two thousand five hundred (2,500) respondents, sixty-two percent (62%) of them were "sexually active," and of that, seventy-six percent (76%) had between one and three partners per year. Fifteen percent (15%) of respondents said they have anywhere between four to eleven (4-11) partners per year, with nine percent (9%) saying that they have twelve or more partners per year.
Out of approximately three thousand seven hundred (3,700) respondents, thirty-four percent (34%) said they use a condom 100% of the time and twenty-five percent (25%) said that they NEVER use a condom.
These results are just a sampling of the entire survey. For complete survey results, with color graphs and charts, please visit www.AIDS.com.
