European Patent Approved for CytoDyn

Business Wire - November 10, 2003

LOS ANGELES--The European Patent Office has approved the first of four pending patents licensed to CytoDyn, Inc. The new European patent covers the use of Cytolin to treat HIV/AIDS and is equivalent to U.S. Patent No. 5,424,066, one of three U.S. patents licensed to CytoDyn by scientist Allen D. Allen, who serves as CytoDyn's Chairman.

Cytolin is a monoclonal antibody that has shown considerable promise as a treatment for HIV/AIDS during clinical trials and during the extensive off-label use of Cytolin that occurred at the height of the AIDS epidemic in the United States. Similar products have been generating billions of dollars in sales for other developers of therapeutic antibodies.

CytoDyn believes European patents are of considerable strategic importance because many of the pharmaceutical companies that would be appropriate strategic partners for CytoDyn after it has completed its Phase 2 study of Cytolin are multinational corporations headquartered in Europe.
