Business Wire - October 13, 2003
The groundbreaking event brought together senior policymakers from union and state governments, with senior executives from a broad range of industries, non-governmental organizations and international institutions.
The simulation was designed to encourage government and the business community to explore innovative ideas and practical steps to address the spread of HIV/AIDS in India. Participants analysed the economic, social and human impact of HIV/AIDS and the competing needs of the various stakeholders. In addition, the simulation examined new models of collaboration among business, government and other stakeholders.
Key conclusions from the simulation included:
-- Leadership commitment: It is the commitment of leaders that drives effective action across sectors
-- Clearly defined strategic priorities: Clear selection of priorities is critical , given the enormous resource and infrastructure constraints in India
-- Broad collaboration: Partnerships - across and within sectors - unleash energy, and allow new ideas to emerge
"Booz Allen's Strategic Simulation provided an unprecedented forum for the generation of ideas on accelerating the business response to HIV/AIDS," said Booz Allen Senior Vice President Heather Burns.
Richard Holbrooke, President of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS:
"I was deeply impressed by the energy and commitment of the participants, who came from four continents and included people from China. The unique outcome was the commitment to collaborate in innovative ways, building on the expertise of each sector. This sort of creative thinking could pave the way for genuine progress in reversing this terrible epidemic. The GBC is committed to working closely with CII in India, and we hope to try to repeat the simulation model in other countries with emerging epidemics, such as China and Eastern Europe, as well as in Africa."
Ratan Tata, Chairman, Indian Business Trust for HIV/AIDS and Chairman, TataSons: "The simulation exercise was so creative that it has motivated the 200 participants, from across the world, but especially from India, to make a new level of commitment to the HIV/AIDS issue. I believe there is a crucial need for an explosion of new initiatives and new partnerships in India which will make an enormous difference to addressing this issue in the future. We salute Booz Allen Hamilton for their leadership."
