World Diagnostics Opens Point of Care Testing in Nepal; Red Cross-Nepal to Evaluate WDI Rapid HIV and Hepatitis Tests for Use in Blood Screening Program

Business Wire - August 13, 2002

MIAMI LAKES, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 2002--World Diagnostics, Inc. (OTCBB:WDGI), www.worlddiagnostics.com, an emerging global provider of medical diagnostic tests and specialized laboratory products for the international marketplace, announced today that it concluded initial sales to the government of Nepal of its HIV and Hepatitis Smart Check(TM) Rapid Tests. The test kits will be used in a government surveillance program to identify and measure the presence of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis in rural areas. As a result of the acceptance of WDI's HIV and Hepatitis Smart Check(TM) Rapid Tests by the government of Nepal's Ministry of Health, the Red Cross-Nepal will begin evaluation of these tests for use in their blood bank screening program. Subject to approval, WDI prospectively will begin to supply the Red Cross-Nepal in a critically important area.

"Nepal has a population of about 25 million and represents a new country that WDI has entered to serve the medical needs of its people. Rapid screening of HIV and Hepatitis of local blood supplies, and their use in surveillance programs, is a high priority in the efforts to minimize the spread of these infectious diseases.

"Initial sales to the government of Nepal are relatively small at this time. However, we are proving that a small company, with innovative ideas and the ability to bring modern medical technology to meet the needs of emerging and lesser-developed countries, can do the job on a cost-efficient basis. While we presently cannot forecast sales of these tests, in general, infection rates of these diseases are rising on a worldwide endemic level.

"WDI is committed to bringing state-of-the-art medical technology to the emerging markets of the world to improve healthcare and education, especially concerning infectious diseases. We believe our Company can make a difference in providing high-quality, affordable diagnostic tests, which is a critical contribution to Nepal's identification, treatment and care strategy," commented Barry Peters, Chairman of World Diagnostics.
