SBU Research Center was formed in March 2000 for the purpose of conducting oriental medicine clinical tests, especially for Cancer and AIDS. The research center currently treats approximately 200 AIDS (or HIV positive) and 50 cancer patients, all of whom have been transferred from Western medical institutions. SBU plans to build a similar type of medical research center in the Dominican Republic once the government of the Dominican Republic approves funding. The MERIDIAN II will be installed as a major piece of equipment in this new medical research center.
MERIDIAN II is a computer-assisted meridian assessment and evaluation device, which operates on the measurement and analysis criteria in Electro-Acupuncture according to Voll (EAV). The EAV assessment process incorporates principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the knowledge of modern western medical science. The purpose of EAV is to detect imbalances in the body's meridian (energetic) system by measuring the electro-physiological conductance of acupuncture points.
