Business Wire - June 14, 2002

EDMONTON, Alberta--(BW HealthWire)--June 14, 2002--Medical Services International Inc. (Pink Sheets:MSITF) is pleased to announce that it has started shipping VScan(TM) Rapid Test Kits for Tuberculosis (TB) to various countries for independent verification of the Company's own comprehensive test results.

These test results demonstrated that the VScan(TM) TB Test Kit has a sensitivity of 80% and specificity of 100%. The only test kit currently available has a sensitivity of 60%. Sensitivity is defined as the repetition of a positive result in individuals with the disease in question. Specificity is defined as the repetition of a negative result in individuals without the disease.

The VScan(TM) Test Kit is a cost-effective, easy-to-use test which does not require any medical or skilled personnel. The TB kit produces visible results, which are easy to interpret in under 20 minutes. In addition, the kit requires no electricity or refrigeration and can be safely stored at room temperature. This allows the kit to be used in a variety of environments and settings. A built-in control mechanism ensures the integrity of the kit.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a highly contagious disease caused by bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) which strikes people in their most productive years, ages 15 to 44. The World Health Organization declared TB a global health crisis in 1993.

It is transmitted through air contaminated with droplets released from the lungs. Of the 2 billion people infected with TB, 200 million worldwide will develop active TB and be able to infect others. Eight (8) million new cases of TB are diagnosed each year. Three (3) million people die from TB every year. TB is the leading killer of woman ages 15 to 44, surpassing all causes of maternal mortality. TB kills more adults than ALL other infectious diseases combined. TB is the leading killer of people infected with HIV worldwide (source: World Health Organization).
