Business Wire - November 5, 2001
Metropolitan Health Networks, Inc. (METCARE(TM))(OTC BB: MDPA) today announced that its pharmacy division, Metcare Rx, has signed a definitive contract to provide AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the nation's largest HIV medical services organization, with pharmacy management and consulting services to AHF clinics in New York City and Florida. Services are expected to begin on December 1, 2001 and to be fully implemented by January 31, 2002.
The AHF clinic in New York City currently provides medical care to more than 2000 patients. In association with AHF, Metcare Rx anticipates opening an on-site pharmacy at an AHF clinic in Jacksonville, Florida by the first quarter of 2002. The AHF clinic in Jacksonville is affiliated with the Magic Johnson Foundation in Dade County, and currently serves approximately 2600 patients. In addition, Metcare Rx has been awarded the mail order contracts for AHF's State Disease Management Contract in Florida and has the first rights of refusal on any new AHF pharmacy contracts. Metcare Rx anticipates the agreement will generate approximately $105 million in revenue for 2002 and $240 million in revenue for 2003.
"Metcare Rx is an important strategic partner in helping us achieve our goal of providing excellent, innovative pharmacy services," said Michael Weinstein, AIDS Healthcare Foundation President. "Metcare Rx shares our values and our commitment to excellent service and we look forward to developing and growing this significant relationship."
Convenient and accessible Metcare pharmacy services will include:
-- One-on-one private meetings with a Metcare pharmacist to discuss treatment plans;
-- Personalized adherence programs;
-- Expert pharmacists accessible 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days-a-year;
-- Home delivery of prescriptions;
-- Utilization management.
"We are excited about the opportunity to provide AHF with a comprehensive pharmacy solution that will increase patient safety and satisfaction, help drive efficiencies, and ultimately reduce costs," said Buzzy Klevens, Pharm. D, President of Metcare Rx. "We look forward to extending our innovative pharmacy services to the entire membership base of AHF."
Metcare, in an effort to strengthen its management of medical care, recently opened Metcare Rx, its new pharmacy division, realizing that pharmacy costs have been increasing at a rate of 18-19% per year.
The pharmacies servicing AHF represent Metcare's ongoing commitment to develop its pharmacy operations throughout the remainder of 2001 to achieve its long-term goal of generating a significant portion of its revenue from its pharmacy division.
