Columbia Laboratories' Announces That Its Multicenter Phase III Study for Advantage-s Failed to Demonstrate That the Product Prevents the Transmission of the HIV Virus

Business Wire - June 12, 2000

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2000--Columbia Laboratories (AMEX: COB) today announced that its phase III multi-center, randomized, placebo controlled double blind study of Advantage-S in women at high risk of HIV infection failed to demonstrate that the product could prevent the transmission of the HIV virus. The reasons for this result are not clear but we are conducting a review to determine the reasons.

Advantage-S is currently being sold in the United States, Canada and China as a spermicide. It was hoped that the Phase III study would show that it also prevented the transmission of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
