San Francisco AIDS Foundation Teams with Yahoo! to Raise Awareness and Money for AIDS Services

Business Wire - November 15, 1999

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 1999--Whether bidding from a Yahoo!-wrapped taxi while driving the streets of San Francisco or participating from home, people now can support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) wherever they are.

Beginning today and running through Nov. 22, Yahoo!(R) (Nasdaq:YHOO) Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.com) is hosting an online charity auction to benefit the SFAF, which provides critical programs and services for people with HIV/AIDS.

Among the items that will be on the virtual auction block are first class tickets on American Airlines, autographed CDs, deluxe hotel packages, works of art and much more. To bid on the unique array of items featured in the online charity auction, people around the world can visit Yahoo! Auctions at http://auctions.yahoo.com. All profits from the charity auction will be donated to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

"Through dedicated and ongoing efforts, Yahoo! is demonstrating the power of the Web to unite communities in support of our efforts," said SFAF's Executive Director Pat Christen. "The generosity of Yahoo! Auctions in hosting this week-long event as well as that of the many donors who have contributed merchandise and services to the auction are greatly appreciated by the individuals we serve and help make possible the many crucial services provided by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation."

To drive home the Foundation's messages and raise continued awareness, Yahoo! and the San Francisco Taxicab Commission teamed up in September to support the SF AIDS Foundation through San Francisco's first Internet-connected taxi. Cruising the streets of San Francisco, Yahoo!-wrapped taxis featured taxi-top signage promoting charity auctions to residents and visitors alike.

"Reaching and impacting communities in a fun and meaningful way has always been an important part of Yahoo!." said Rich Godwin, brand manager, Yahoo! Auctions. "The San Francisco AIDS Foundation continues to face daunting challenges at every turn with compassion, dignity and a sense of purpose.

"Through the Yahoo!-wrapped taxis and Yahoo! Auctions, we wanted to provide the Foundation with unique vehicles to bring people together and raise needed funds for the Foundation. We look forward to supporting their continued efforts and to helping people everywhere recognize that we are all part of a global community that can make a difference."

The fastest-growing, globally-branded auction site on the Internet, Yahoo! Auctions is a leading interactive commerce marketplace connecting one of the Web's largest audiences of sellers and buyers. Yahoo! Auctions is part of the Yahoo! global network (Nasdaq:YHOO).

The San Francisco AIDS Foundation (www.sfaf.org), through its comprehensive array of compassionate and critical services such as one-on-one treatment consultations, housing assistance and the California AIDS Hotline (800/367-AIDS), annually serves 120,000 individuals impacted by HIV and AIDS. The non-profit, community-based organization reaches nearly 1 million others through community outreach, advocacy efforts, prevention campaigns and the Web.
