HIV-VAC Concerned With Drug Resistant AIDS Virus

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 1999--HIV-VAC, Inc (OTC BB:HIVC), developer of a promising new vaccine for AIDS, announced its concern for HIV infected patients as regards the findings of a recent study by the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center at Rockefeller University in New York. The study of 80 men found that that one in six patients was resistant to at least one of a combination of drugs commonly used against the deadly virus.

The study, published in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association, was the first published that measured drug resistance since patients began taking a daily combination of drugs.

The increased transmission of drug resistant strains is cause for concern and underlines the importance of developing an effective vaccine.

The HIV-VAC vaccine uses a new approach to the AIDS problem. HIV-VAC uses patented intracellular technology using a multi-protein approach whereby the whole spectrum of virus proteins is available to the immune system. It is believed that this method offers a rational approach both as a vaccine and for therapeutic purposes. Clinical trials are expected to commence within nine months.
