Medi-Hut Co., Inc. - Four States Make Needle Safety Devices Compulsory

Business Wire - August 11, 1999

LAKEWOOD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug., 11, 1999--Joseph Sanpietro, President of Medi-Hut Co., Inc. (OTC BB: MHUT), announced today that needle safety legislation has passed in the States of California, Tennessee, Maryland and New Jersey mandating the use of needle-safety devices in the Health Care Facilities with another 21 States and the District of Columbia working to this end.

Mr. Sanpietro commented: "These States have taken a giant leap forward in protecting the Health Care Workers as well as the patients." Approximately 800,000 to 1,000,000 needle sticks occur each year. Medi-Hut Co., Inc. will manufacture its own patented brand Anti-Stick Safety Syringes which has passed the FDA 510k approval process. The new safety syringe will incorporate a transparent sleeve into which the needle will automatically retract after use.

In a bipartisan move to nationalize the use of safer needles, Rep. Fortney "Pete" Stark (D-Ca) and Marge Roukema (R-NJ) joined together to introduce the Health Care Worker Needle Stick Prevention Act of 1999 in Congress in late May. Briefly stated, this act would require employees to use needleless IV systems and safety sharps, involve front-line workers in identifying and evaluating safety devices, and train workers on their use. Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) is expected to introduce a similar bill in the Senate. Also, in conjunction, the Occupational Safety and Health administration will act swiftly to improve needle safety regulations says Labor Secretary Alexis Herman, looking for final action by this fall. "With everyone working for the same end, a safer working environment, Medi-Hut's product will fill the need of a safe, easy to use and competitively priced Anti-Stick Safety Syringe," stated Mr. Sanpietro.

Medi-Hut Co., Inc. was founded in 1982 and began trading publicly in February 1998. The Company private labels and recently announced their own "Elite brand" insulin syringes, condoms, alcohol preps, hot and cold packs, etc., and will manufacture its own patented brand anti-stick safety syringes which has also passed the FDA 510K approval process. The new safety syringe will incorporate a transparent sleeve into which the needle will automatically retract after use.
