SDS Announces Product Approval and Expanded Distribution Agreement in India

VANCOUVER, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 1999--Saliva Diagnostic Systems Inc. (OTC BB:SALV - news) announced today that in collaboration with its marketing partner in India, Cadila Healthcare Ltd., approval has been obtained from the Drug Controller of India (DCI) for distribution of its rapid, whole-blood test for HIV infection, Hema-Strip(tm) HIV 1/2.

This follows approval by the DCI earlier this year for SDS' serum-based HIV diagnostic product, Sero-Strip(tm) HIV 1/2. SDS and Cadila have also extended their Marketing Agreement to include minimum purchases of approximately $500,000 of Hema-Strip(tm) HIV 1/2 by Cadila over the next 12 months.

Other product approvals recently awarded to SDS include approval for distribution of Stat-Simple(TM) pylori, SDS' diagnostic test for Helicobacter pylori infection in humans, in Hungary; and approval for distribution of Stat-Simple(TM) pylori, Sero-Strip« HIV 1/2 and Hema-Strip(tm) HIV 1/2 in Colombia.

Saliva Diagnostic Systems Inc. develops and manufactures medical specimen collection devices and rapid tests for infectious diseases and certain other conditions. These tests include saliva, serum and whole blood tests for HIV and Helicobacter pylori. The company is based in Vancouver, Wash. The tests require only a few simple steps to use and produce results within minutes without special equipment, training, or storage.
