State Board of Health to Discuss Licensing Of Food Workers, HIV Reporting

Business Wire - Wednesday May 5, 1999

OLYMPIA, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1999--The state Board of Health will meet May 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Comfort Inn & Suites, 19333 Pacific Highway South, in Seattle.

At 9:10 a.m, the board will hear public testimony on a proposed rule that would require statewide minimum standards for training and testing of food service workers. Following the hearing, the board will vote on the proposal, which is part of Governor Locke's regulatory reform efforts.

Department of Health officials will brief the board on a new federal regulation that requires community water systems serving more than 25 people to provide customers with annual "consumer confidence reports" detailing the quality of drinking water they serve, as well as other vital public health information.

The board will continue work on developing rules for reporting HIV cases. Public comment will be taken on this issue at 1:45 p.m.

The state Board of Health, established in 1889 by the state constitution, provides citizens a forum for the development of public health policy in Washington. Members of the board believe that broad public participation is the best way to ensure government is both vigorous and responsive to their needs. People who need special accommodations to attend the meeting should contact Misty Zolotas at 360/586-0399.

Note to editors: The meeting agenda is available upon request.
