(BW) Project New Hope Announces Grand Opening and Dedication of Jack H. Plimpton New Hope Apartments

BUSINESS WIRE; Wednesday March 11, 2:55 pm EST

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1998--Project New Hope announced the grand opening and dedication of the Jack H. Plimpton New Hope Apartments. The ceremony will be held Friday, March 20, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2301 Brier Ave., Los Angeles, in the Silverlake district.

The dedication will be followed by a sit-down buffet, cocktail reception and guided tours. This is the first building in the United States that not only provides affordable housing for those living with HIV/AIDS, but also provides a remote learning station for its residents.

Project New Hope is pleased to be honoring its founder, Jack H. Plimpton, by naming the building in memory of Robert A. Kettlehack, an Episcopal priest who died from an AIDS-related illness in 1989. Project New Hope was founded through the auspices of the Bishop's Commission on AIDS Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.

Project New Hope's programs provide supportive, affordable independent housing and comprehensive vocational services needed to maintain employability and self-sufficiency. ``Take back your life, exercise your options'' is the motto created by the students at the Trinity Learning Center.

Opening ceremonies will include 13th District Councilmember Jackie Goldberg, whose support helped make the project a reality. State Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa and Councilmember Rita Walters have also agreed to participate at the dedication. The ceremony will open with an invocation by the Right Reverend Chester L. Talton of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. Other speakers to be announced.

This event is sponsored by Pacific Bell, U.S. Trust Co. of California, DeLuxe Catering, Pit Fire Pizza Co., Abbey Rents, Trader Joe's and the 13th Council District Office.

Through community partnerships with HUD, the Los Angeles Housing Department, LAUSD, Low Income Housing Fund, U.S. Trust, California Community Foundation, the Enterprise Foundation and private individuals, this building exists. Thanks to the dedication of Ellias Construction, Yokota & Associates and Cavaedium Architects, this once-vacant lot is now 14 beautiful state-of-the-art homes for people in need.
