--(BW HealthWire)--IL-2 is a human cytokine that has been found to stimulate the immune system and provide therapeutic benefit in patients with certain cancers and HIV. Oncologists are convening in San Francisco for the First Proleukin International Congress to present research and share insights into new uses of Interleukin-2 (IL-2) in hematological malignancies and solid tumors. In addition, AIDS treatment experts will discuss the mechanism by which IL-2 stimulates the body's natural immune function and may help ward off opportunistic infections and AIDS-related malignancies in patients infected with HIV and AIDS. The Congress is sponsored by Chiron Corporation, which currently markets recombinant IL-2 as Proleukin(R) aldesleukin for injection) for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
WHAT: The First International Congress on IL-2 A forum for oncologists and immunologists to present research updates and discuss new uses of IL-2 as a means of stimulating the immune system in the treatment of cancer and HIV.
