The newest members -- Julie Stachowiak, Kevin Allen and Clarissa Crabtree -- bring a range of experience in public health and substance abuse issues, international AIDS efforts, and corporate communications and marketing. Their combined experience and skills will prove invaluable in the NAMES Project Foundation's ongoing programs to reach communities especially at-risk for HIV infection, including many outside of the United States.
Julie A. Stachowiak is Founder and Executive Director of AIDS Infoshare/Infoshare International, which works to distribute information and provide assistance to people affected by the epidemic in Russia and support for HIV organizations there. Stachowiak has worked as a consultant for organizations such as the World Health Organization, the International Center for Better Health and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.
Kevin Allen is Executive Vice President and Group Director for McCann-Erickson where he manages the advertising and communications-related needs for a number of major corporations. In addition to his experience advising clients developing corporate communications strategies, Allen has donated his time and talents in the production of a number of public service campaigns on local and national levels, among them a campaign for New York's Gay Men's Health Crisis.
Clarissa Crabtree is the Administrator for the Department of Public Health at Cornell University Medical College. Crabtree oversees budget and grant administration, academic appointments, and research and administrative support for faculty. She has been involved with the NAMES Project since making her first Quilt panel in 1987, and most recently served as one of the six Regional Display Coordinators for the October 1996 display of the entire Quilt in Washington, D.C.
Leaving the board of directors is outgoing President Michael Berg, Lee Nordlund, Richard Hutson, Carolyn Reidy, Julia Sawabini and Marienne McClure. "We are very privileged to have these individuals join the NAMES Project Foundation's board of directors," said Jackson Hicks, President of the board. "Their diverse range of experiences in fighting AIDS will greatly enhance our work to help bring an end to the AIDS epidemic. We are deeply appreciative of the work of those board members who are stepping down, whose efforts contributed significantly to the success of the display of the entire Quilt in Washington, D.C."
Founded in 1987, the NAMES Project Foundation sponsors and displays the AIDS Memorial Quilt to help bring an end to the AIDS epidemic. Through a network of 44 national NAMES Project chapters and 36 international affiliates, the AIDS Memorial Quilt is seen annually by more than one million people at nearly 2,000 displays. To date, over eight million people have visited the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
