(BW) State Board of Health to discuss drinking water, telemedicine, HIV/AIDS legislation and regulation of surgical technologists

BUSINESS WIRE; Thursday, 5 December 1996.

OLYMPIA, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 1996--The state Board of Health will meet Dec. 11 to discuss telemedicine, amendments to the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, a change in HIV/AIDS legislation, and regulation of surgical technologists.

The meeting is open to the public. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the West Coast SeaTac Hotel, 18229 Pacific Highway South.

Proposed design guidelines and regulations for water systems serving more than 15 connections will be presented by Dave Clark, director of the drinking water program at the state Department of Health. Changes to the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act allow Department of Health to offer financial and technical assistance to small water systems.

The board will hear public testimony on two subjects. The first is a proposal to align Washington Administrative Code with state law by acknowledging that HIV laboratory tests can be done on specimens other than blood. The second is a proposal to have the state Department of Health regulate surgical technologists. The state currently does not regulate surgical technologists.

People who need special accommodations to attend the meeting should contact Michael Zimmerman at 360/586-0399.
