Panels of the AIDS Quilt will be on exhibit from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the main lobby of State Street's headquarters at 225 Franklin Street in Boston for public viewing and at two of its North Quincy locations.
In addition, as part of the company's partnership with Quincy High School, State Street has invited students from the school to view the Quilt panels at its Adams Building lobby.
"We have been bringing the AIDS Quilt to State Street employees since 1991, usually twice per year. AIDS awareness and education is critical, both in the workplace and in our communities," said Margarete Dupere, vice president, Global Human Resources. "The Quilt is a poignant and powerful medium. This year we are pleased to have the Quilt available to high school students in Quincy and the business community in Boston, while it is on display in our buildings." Dupere is head of employee communications at State Street, as well as the company's Diversity/Workforce initiative.
Sponsored by the NAMES Project Foundation, the AIDS Memorial Quilt bears witness to the human tragedy of AIDS. In its entirety, the Quilt comprises approximately 33,000 panels and spans 13 acres in solemn commemoration of the thousands of lives that have been lost to the AIDS epidemic. The Quilt serves as an expression of love and hope, and provides an effective and moving tool for AIDS education.
