Dr. Perrault earned his M.D. at the University of Ottawa, then completed post-graduate studies at the National Defense Medical Centre and the Ottawa General Hospital, completing a residency in Internal Medicine. He obtained a Medical Research Council Fellowship and completed a Doctorate in Immunohematology at the University of Uppsala, Sweden. He worked for the Canadian Red Cross from 1972-1991, first as Medical Director of the Ottawa Centre and from 1974 as National Director Blood Transfusion Service, with responsibility for all Red Cross blood transfusion centres across Canada, and the National Reference Laboratory, with an operating budget of $200 million and staff in excess of 1800. He was then promoted to Deputy Secretary-General, Operations and then, Deputy Secretary-General Blood Services.
Dr. Perrault then served as President and Chief Executive Officer of IAF Bio Vac Inc. for two years. He is currently President of the Industrial Biotechnology Association of Canada, which is the national industry association that advocates and promotes the growth of the Canadian commercial biotechnology sector. Dr. Perrault's professional publications reflect his significant research efforts into such areas as blood freezing, blood component therapy, antibody analysis, the Rh system, hepatitis, retroviruses and AIDS.
