HIV-positive man charged after seducing 15-year-old over internet

Agence France-Presse - November 3, 2008

WARSAW, Nov 3, 2008 (AFP) - Polish authorities on Monday charged a 47-year-old HIV-positive man with endangering the life of a 15-year-old girl he seduced over the internet, a police spokeswoman said.

"The suspect was arrested and charged after the parents of the 15-year-old girl reported her missing," a police spokeswoman in Krakow, southern Poland, told AFP. "The search for her led to the suspect."

Medical tests were underway Monday to determine whether the teenager, who came from a "normal home", had been infected with HIV, the spokeswoman said.

The suspect, identified only as Wieslaw S., seduced the girl over the internet.

Police have secured the hard disc of his computer which the spokeswoman said contained "very many" -- possibly hundreds -- of contacts with women from across Poland.

"We are trying to track down anyone who may have been in contact with the suspect," the spokeswoman added.

Prosecutors in Krakow have published a photo of the suspect and requested anyone with information about him to come forward.

Poland's PAP news agency reported Wieslaw S. had already served time in prison after being convicted for attempted murder and he learned he was infected with HIV in 1990.

He now faces three years behind bars in found guilty as charged.

Last month the trial of Simon Moleke Njie, a 34-year-old Cameroonian living in Poland and charged with having "knowingly infected" 11 women with the HIV virus, was suspended when he died after developing full-blown AIDS.
